Summer has a way of slowing things down just enough to go deeper. This month, I've been thinking about something that shapes everything we do at Full Bloom: what it actually means to know someone.
Not just their diagnosis. Not just their daily schedule or medication list. But who they are. What they love. What makes them feel at home in the world.
Before a Full Bloom MCP ever walks through a client's door, we do something many traditional home care agencies skip entirely. We sit down with the family and go deep with what we call the Life Story. It's one of the most meaningful conversations we have, and it's the foundation every successful care relationship is built on.

Co-Founder & Chief Client Officer, Full Bloom Memory Care
When a family calls us, they're often exhausted. They've spent months managing logistics, appointments, and safety concerns. And now they're being asked to hand off the most intimate parts of their loved one's day to a stranger.
We take that seriously.
That's why, before we match a Memory Care Partner, we ask families to walk us through who their person really is. The Life Story is a guided conversation and form that goes well beyond the basics. We're not just asking about mobility or medication schedules. We're asking:
These details aren't small. They're the building blocks of connection.
When Mary, one of our MCPs, arrives at Lois's home for the first time, she already knows that Lois likes her coffee with cream and sugar, that Dean Martin on the radio puts her at ease, and that she loves a slow walk through the park. Mary isn't starting from zero. She's starting from somewhere real.
That first cup of coffee shared in comfortable silence, or a familiar song hummed in the kitchen, is how trust begins. And trust, in memory care, is everything. It's what allows a person living with dementia to relax. To accept help. To feel safe with someone new.
Many traditional home care agencies send caregivers in with a schedule and their best intentions. There's no real roadmap for the relationship. For someone living with dementia, who may not understand why a stranger is in their home in the first place, that blind start can mean weeks of resistance, distress, and failed placements.
The Life Story changes the equation. It's relational care from day one.
If this resonated with you, we'd love to help you get started. Get in touch with us, and we'll send you a condensed version of our form. It's a meaningful exercise even if you're not yet working with us, and it may give you a new way to see and honor who your person is right now.
